In our philosophy, restoration is above all a cultural act. Restoring an ancient building does not simply mean “repairing” it: it means respecting the values and the posterity that the past has sent down to us, making interventions in a way that is compatible with the building’s history and, when necessary, making brave decisions to guarantee the future of unrepeatable architectural jewels. This is why we have always united technical and scientific practice with rigorous respect for history and theory based on a new conception of restoration, where modernity and innovation serve to protect the past. There is also another challenge: to keep in mind these same values when constructing new buildings, so that our present can become the past for future generations. This cultural challenge over the past years has been taken up by the most authoritative art historians and architects, critics and intellectuals who have given their contribution to the work of Dottor Group.
We are convinced that their reflections and visions contribute to spreading the debate about restoration and construction, keeping this very important but often forgotten sphere in the public eye.
Pietro Dottor, president of Dottor Group
